Can dogs eat breakfast cereal?

A few plain low-sugar cereal pieces are harmless. The risk is what is mixed in — raisins, chocolate, nuts and xylitol all appear in cereals and granola.

Why

Plain cereal is empty calories. Granola and muesli routinely contain raisins, and chocolate cereals are common.

Never in this form

Anything containing raisins, chocolate, macadamias or xylitol.

Portion

Plain Cheerios are about 4 kcal per piece.
