Can dogs eat cinnamon, ginger and turmeric?
These spices are not toxic in the trace amounts found in food, though cinnamon powder can irritate the mouth and airways if inhaled.
Signs to watch for
- coughing and choking if powder is inhaled
- mouth irritation
- vomiting
Why
Cinnamon is not poisonous but the powder is an irritant, and cinnamon oil is much more so. Ginger is often used for nausea and is well tolerated. Turmeric can stain and, in large amounts, may affect blood clotting.
How to prepare it
A pinch at most, mixed into food, never as loose powder.
Never in this form
