Can dogs eat plain yogurt?
Plain unsweetened yogurt is fine for most dogs in small amounts. Check the label for xylitol, and skip it if your dog is lactose intolerant.
Why
Live cultures pre-digest some of the lactose, so yogurt is usually better tolerated than milk. Sweetened and flavoured varieties are the problem — some sugar-free ones contain xylitol.
How to prepare it
Plain, unsweetened, full-fat or low-fat, live cultures. Nothing else.
Never in this form
Sweetened, flavoured, or anything containing xylitol.
Portion
A tablespoon or two for a medium dog. Around 60 kcal per 100 g for plain low-fat.
