Can dogs eat pomegranate?

Pomegranate is not toxic but the tannins commonly cause vomiting, and the seeds are hard to digest.

Signs to watch for

  • vomiting
  • diarrhoea

Why

High tannin content irritates the stomach in many dogs. Pomegranate extract appears in some commercial dog foods at controlled levels; the whole fruit is a different proposition.
